Fish oil is rich in omega-3 fatty acids – EPA and DHA.
Fish oil is a 100% marine oil derived from the tissues of oily fish and contains the omega-3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) which are very essential for animals and humans. These have been the subject of numerous studies showing they confer several health benefits which are well documented.
The fish used as sources do not actually produce omega-3 fatty acids, but instead accumulate them by consuming either microalgae or prey fish that have accumulated omega-3 fatty acids.
Fish oil is mainly used for the production of feed for farmed fish and in the production of refined fish oil for human consumption.
